The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has consolidated its place among globally recognized research institutions, as eight of its scholars made the prestigious list of the world’s top 2% scientists published by Elsevier/Stanford University, USA.
The annual ranking, based on metrics from Scopus, a leading international academic database, identified 291 Nigerian scholars in the 2025 edition. Of this number, eight are affiliated with LAUTECH—six being members of its academic staff and two alumni who maintain affiliation with the University through their mentors.
LAUTECH’s journey on the global list began in 2020 with three scholars. The number rose to five in 2024 and has now increased to six in 2025, signaling steady academic growth and global impact.
Notably, the current ranking features the late Prof. Abass A. Olajire (Pure and Applied Chemistry), placed 5th in Nigeria; Prof. Olugbenga S. Bello (Pure and Applied Chemistry), 18th; Prof. Agbaje Lateef (Pure and Applied Biology), 50th; Dr. Samson Olaniyi (Pure and Applied Mathematics), 178th; Dr. Roland E. Akhigbe (Physiology), 249th; and Prof. Ayodeji F. Ajayi (Physiology), 280th.
The trio of Prof. Olajire (posthumously), Prof. Bello, and Prof. Lateef have consistently appeared on the list for six consecutive years, ranking among the most cited scholars in LAUTECH.
In a statement, the University hailed the recognition as proof of its rising profile in global research and academic excellence. “These stellar performances reinforce LAUTECH’s position as a leading institution in Nigeria and beyond,” the management noted.
