President of the Alumni association of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Mr. Solomon Onilede, has applauded the Oyo state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for his support and interest in growth and development of the institution, notably the giant effort that resolved the ownership crisis amongst other steps that put the University on limelight globally and his assurance on retention of LAUTECH acronym for the institution.

Onilede, who is the global president of the association, said this, on Thursday during the association’s 16th annual lecture held at The Great Hall LAUTECH.

Welcoming guests, Onilede described the governor as a great lover of the institution, and noted, “He has demonstrated this over and over again and recently did that by assuring LAUTECH Global Alumni Association on the retention of the name LAUTECH.”

Justifying the desire to have that acronym retained he asserted that the name “has become a branded one for excellence, integrity and service for our great institution.”

He added, “LAUTECH suffered some set back during the last administration that almost crippled the institution, Governor Makinde took over LAUTECH, rescued and saved it from the crisis bedeviling it, and restored her past glory to become the Best State University in Nigeria and in over 33years of her existence rose to the position of the 10th best University in the country (Federal, State, and Private combined ). Even as the university is turning to a multi-campus one, the governor has magnanimously agreed to maintain the popular name LAUTECH,
“To this and many more we say we are grateful and we will continue to support your sustainable and developmental plans for the institution sir.”

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Mojeed Liasu, lauded the association for its contributions to societal development, describing the association as a trail blazer.
Prof Liasu further stated, “The feedbacks about the LAUTECH alumni association, both at home and in the Diaspora, and from the society are highly encouraging and we are happy that you are all projecting the good image of the university in the outside world.

In response, the recipient of the award on behalf of the Governor, Hon. Abiodun Oluwaseun (LAUREL) said, “ Governor Seyi Makinde has performed excellently well and has helped surmount the almost impossible task of Taking over LAUTECH for Oyo State and gradually stabilizing it.” He further stressed that the ALUMNI, Students, and the entire university community should support and re-elect the Governor for a second term as that will help to sustain the progress achieved by the current administration.

Laurel thanked the Alumni Association for their consistent support of the Engr. Seyi Makinde led administration as permanent stakeholders of the University and for recognizing the Governor on his deserving feat.

The central aim of the LAUTECH alumni annual lecture is to enlighten the general public as well as the university community on the challenges bedeviling the country, especially as relating to university education to proffer solutions for having a better society.
