Academic Staff Union of University ASUU of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH Ogbomoso has described the appeal of Senator Isiaka Ajimobi, the governor of Oyo state to the striking workers of the institution as a misplaced effort
Just as they said the Union will not shift grounds until the visitors to the University, and the Chancellor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide the necessary leadership to take LAUTECH out of the present quagmire.
Senator Ajimobi had on Monday in his address at the inauguration of the board of ETF at governor’s office, appealed to striking workers of the University, who are being owed salaries of nine months and other forms of allowances to go back to work.
The union leader in a press statement signed by its branch chairman , Dr Abiodun Olaniran and its secretary Dr Toyin Abedgunrin, said “our Union is of the opinion that sincere appeal should be directed at the owner states of Oyo and Osun, particularly, the visitors who have abdicated their responsibilities to LAUTECH, and by extension, the good people of Oyo and Osun states in ensuring proper funding of the University”.
“Our Union made several efforts to alert the owner states on the looming danger of chronic underfunding of the University since 2013, but we have been largely treated as jesters, insulted and blackmailed by the two governments and their agents with reckless abandon”.
“The Union had no option, other than to embark on the current struggle to demand for the funding of University and welfare of its members”.
“On the issue of governing council, the government is admonished to appoint people of proven integrity and not political jobbers into the council. Our experience with the Prof. Wale Omole-led council as exemplified by the report of Olanipekun-led visitation panel showed that it was a parasitic and indolent council, a type which must never be foisted on the University again”.
“Therefore, for the umpteenth time, we call on the well meaning sons and daughters of Oyo and Osun states, as well as Southwest Nigeria to kindly appeal to the visitors to the University, and the Chancellor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide the necessary leadership to take LAUTECH out of the present quagmire” . the union concluded
