Akinwande is expected to be sworn into office by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, in Abuja on July 21, 2026.

SURCON is the regulatory body responsible for the registration and regulation of surveyors in Nigeria. The Council comprises 59 members, including the Surveyors-General of the 36 states of the federation and the Director of Mapping in the Federal Capital Territory.

The appointment was warmly received by the 1981 Set of Ladigbolu Grammar School, Oyo, where Akinwande is an alumnus. In a congratulatory statement signed by the Set President, Segun Oke, the alumni described the appointment as a recognition of Akinwande’s outstanding career, professionalism and commitment to the surveying profession.

According to the statement, Akinwande’s elevation is not only a personal achievement but also a source of pride for the school, the 1981 Set, and the entire Oyo community.

The alumni noted that the appointment reflects the discipline, excellence and values instilled by Ladigbolu Grammar School, adding that they are delighted to see one of their members rise to lead Nigeria’s apex regulatory body for surveyors.

They prayed for God’s wisdom, strength and guidance for Akinwande as he assumes the responsibility of steering the affairs of SURCON, expressing confidence that he would provide purposeful leadership and contribute significantly to the advancement of the surveying profession in Nigeria.

The group also called on members of the 1981 Set, the wider Ladigbolu Grammar School alumni family and other well-wishers to celebrate the milestone and support Akinwande with prayers as he takes on the national assignment.

Surv. Akinwande hails from the Molete Compound in Oyo Town. He retired from the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation in 2018 as Director of Research, Planning and Documentation, after a distinguished career in public service
