Oba Dr. Asiwaju Jamiu Adewale Eletu Oba Risa Ati of Ijo Olorisa Parapo Ati Asa Ile Adulawo Agbayeworldwide has said the proposed plan by the Federal Government to Install CCTV cameras on highways in Nigeria to checkmate insecurity is a welcome development that may not bring expected result.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday unveils plans to install closed circuit television cameras on the highways in the country as part of efforts to stop killing and kidnapping by herdsmen,
He disclosed this during a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja with the South-West traditional rulers led by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
Oba Eletu said rather, the government should collaborate with traditional institutions and empower interest groups in tackling the challenges in a local way.
” The government should work with traditional rulers and others stakeholders in the country, traditional rulers are the closest to the people, they should set up security monitoring team to check strange movement and others.
Eletu while speaking with National Insight in Ekiti on Friday posit that ‘CCTV will not get to the remote rural communities and forests where the bandits carry out their dastard act.”
“Ask what the Ijo olorisa is doing to tackle insecurity in the country, Oba Eletu said’ We are working out something, in few months we are launching a network of security that would spread across the country.
” We are going to fortified our team members with necessary charms and train them on how to combat criminals who are disturbing the peace of the land.
