Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACABAN) ,Oyo state has called for the inclusion of their members into the proposed Amotekun corps
The immediate past chairman of the association, Yakubu Bello said this on Monday while speaking at the Public hearing on Oyo state Security Network Agency Bill held parliamentary building Secretariat Ibadan .
Bello maintained that, involving us in the Amotekun arrangement will be better because we will be able to fish out the bad ones with criminal tendencies among us
“ We know Amotekun is being proposed because of the state of insecurity in the region and obviously our people are the target simply because of the belief that the crimes revolves round herders, but we with our involvement we will be able stem the tides of criminality together in the society
“We have been together for over fifty years, doing business with yoruba people, we marry their children and they marry our own too so we are like one big family, there is no reason for reasonable people among us to engage in criminal activities”
Similarly the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams and other stakeholders who speaks at the public hearing commended Engineer Seyi Makinde and the state Assembly members for the step taking in curbing the incessant rate of crimes in the society
Adams who was represented by Mogaji Gboyega Adejumo, Gbonka Aare Ona Kakanfo said’ The Amotekun initiative is the next natural step in the dynamic laudable and progressive delivery of good governance as the security if the people and the economy of the zone go together in unison and congruity. Nitori na, e maya o Iya tobo aso lo bi ewu, we cannot separate our economy from our security”
Speaking on the involvement of Miyetti Allah, Aare Adams said “ We cannot conclude this memorandum without making a reference to the Miyyetti Allah cattle breeders association about stance that they shall be here present today in all of the six states houses of assembly to be in sitting a this public hearing whilst we do not deny them the opportunity to be present observers. however ,the granting of observers status to those who constitute the most our sources of insecurity should not go beyond mere appearance , We the Yoruba’s are not to be taken for granted and we are not to be insulted by those who have taken our hospitality to men that they can have a sense of entitlement”
The speaker of the House of Assembly Hon Debo Ogundoyin in his welcome remark assured the stakeholders that their contributions and suggestions will be appreciated and included in the bill so that together w can put an end to widespread insecurity in our region.
Also Hon Akeem Obadara, Chairman Committee on security and strategy, said the bill seeks to share intelligence about crime, criminal activities collaborate with similar security Network Agencies in protecting lives and property within the state among others.
Representatives of other groups including Egbe Ifokanbale Yoruba,Vigilante group of Nigeria, Peace Corps, Nigeria Police, Soludero Hunters Guilde, Agbekoya Farmers Asociation, RTEAN and others commended the Assembly for the job well done and urge them not to politicize the recruitment of the corps but engage those who are willing to protect the state
