A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Hussaini Yusuf Ijabah, has obtained the expression of interest form to contest the Oyo North Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections.
Ijabah, who had earlier lamented what he described as a 28-year imbalance in political representation within the district, said the Kisi/Irepo/Olorunsogo axis had not produced a senator since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.
The APC stalwart, a native of Ward 3 in Kisi, Irepo Local Government Area of Oyo State, said his decision to join the race was driven by the need to correct what he termed a longstanding political injustice against the Irepo/Oorelope/Olorunsogo Federal Constituency.
According to him, the constituency remains the only bloc within Oyo North yet to occupy the senatorial seat in nearly three decades of democratic governance.
“This is not just about ambition; it is about justice. For nearly three decades, a critical bloc within Oyo North has been excluded from the highest legislative representation. That gap must be addressed,” Ijabah stated.
He stressed that his aspiration was aimed at promoting fairness, inclusiveness and balanced political representation across the district.
Ijabah also appealed to political stakeholders and party leaders in Oyo North to support the agitation for equitable power rotation, insisting that giving the zone an opportunity to produce the next senator would strengthen unity and deepen democratic participation within the district.
