The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has attributed the persistent power outages and intermittent electricity supply being experienced across its franchise areas to a reduction in load allocation from the national grid.
In a public announcement issued on Monday, December 16, 2025, the electricity distribution company acknowledged the prolonged outages affecting customers across Oyo, Kwara, Ogun, Osun states and Ibadan metropolis, while apologising for the inconvenience caused.
According to IBEDC, the situation arose due to a significant drop in electricity allocation from the national grid, which has constrained the amount of power available for distribution within its coverage areas.
“The intermittent supply and extended outage periods are a result of reduced load allocation from the national grid, which has limited electricity available for distribution within our franchise,” the company stated.
IBEDC disclosed that it is currently engaging the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Nigeria Independent System Operator (NISO) in efforts aimed at improving supply stability.
The company further explained that, pending improvement in supply, available electricity is being strategically and equitably distributed across feeders and service bands to ensure fairness and operational efficiency.
IBEDC appealed to customers for patience and understanding, assuring them of its commitment to keeping the public informed as the situation evolves.
The statement was signed by IBEDC Management.
