Ibadan Poly Receives NBTE Accreditation Team, Boast of Adequate Infrastructural Facilities

Management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan has on Wednesday received an Accreditation Team from the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) for Accreditation of 35 of her ND and HND programmes..

The great citadel of learning welcomed the team in a grand styled ceremony held at the institution’s Assembly Hall, The Polytechnic, Ibadan on Wednesday, 20th of April, 2022.

While delivering his welcome remark, Rector, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi maintained that programme accreditation is a continuous exercise that has given the institution the opportunity to keep growing day by day.

He noted that the Accreditation exercise should have been done about two (2) years ago but couldn’t hold due to some hindrances adding that the last accreditation was done in January 2020 for 13 programmes of the institution of which all programmes were accredited.

He maintained that Accreditation is not a witch – hunting exercise, but an exercise to improve and review academic excellence across all institutions of the country.

“Accreditation is not a witch hunting exercise, but an exercise to improve and review academic.

“We have been developing our infrastructure and programme facilities. we have put in place 2 storey buildings of 300 capacity lecture theatres. We have 300 capacity lecture Theatre courtesy of TETFUND. Through our IGR, we have constructed a 200 – seater theatre.

“Sponsors like National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria (NICON) donated a building, Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIBN) also constructed a 200 capacity lecture hall regarded as Banker’s Hall.

“We have ongoing projects, that includes a Multi Purposed lecture Theatre, A 72 – Lecturer Office Complex. A 500 lecture capacity Theatre is going on by our Alumni. The Banking and Finance, and Accountancy alumni associations are also constructing a Department library.”

While lauding the team of the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE), The Rector claimed that recommendations from the NBTE Accreditation exercise has since serve as a drive for the institution to increase in infrastructural development.

“We are improving in infrastructural development based on your recommendations. All departments were provided with equipments. We believe Accreditation is a continuous exercise.

” Accreditation exercise has given us the opportunity for growth, and we are growing day by day.”

He further maintained that all the achievements wouldn’t have been achievable if not for the unending support of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Gov. Seyi Makinde.

Southwest Zonal Director of National Board for Technical Education, Engr. Olubode Majiyagbe Daniel in his remark maintained that the NBTE visited to carry out her statutory responsibility to ensure quality assurance for technical institutions in the country.

He stated that the board is keen on bringing her activities closer to the people, and to take message and agenda of the board to all stakeholders, adding that reports would be based on information gotten from the management of the institution.

While granting an interview with newsmen on the standing disparity between University and Polytechnic Graduates, Director of Polytechnic Programme NBTE Kaduna, Arch. Ngbede Ogor claimed that the focus of the board is to ensure that Polytechnic graduates have equal standard with university graduates.

“On the part of NBTE we want to ensure that all polytechnic’s graduate must posses certain skills and not only paper qualifications (certificate) so as to meet the skill gap between us and the developed countries and make themselves ready for the labour market because skills is very important in polytechnic education.

“The reasons for discrimination between University and Polytechnic graduates is because employers believe University graduates are superior to Polytechnic graduates which is not true.

“Employers of labour to look toward the polytechnic graduate because their curriculum is 70% practical and this will reduce the money to be spent in training them.”

He also added that by time the lost glory is restored by injecting skills in our polytechnic graduates, university students will be willing to come to the Polytechnic to earn some skills.

The Music Technology department made the welcome ceremony colorful one with melodic tunes and great music.

The 21 of the 35 programmes to be accredited are Department of Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Survey and Geoinfomatics, Art and Design, Estate Management, Urban and Regional Planning, Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Insurance, Biology, Chemistry, Science Laboratory Technology, Library and Information Science, Physics, Public Administration, Business Administration, Marketing, Office Technology Management, Music, and Local Government.

Other members of the management team in attendance are the Registrar, Mrs. Modupe Fawale, Deputy Rector, Mrs. Abiodun Olubamiwa, Chief Librarian, Dr. Samuel Ajala, Directors, Deans of the five Faculties, and Head of Departments.

Members of the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) Team led by the Director of Polytechnic Programme NBTE Kaduna, Arch. Ngbede Ogor includes the NBTE Zonal Director, Mr. Olubode Majiyagbe, Hon. Olutunji Saheed Ajibade, Engr. Muritala Idowu, Engr. Olushola Albert, Engr. OA Idowu Engr. Adenike and many others.
