Otun Atayese of Ibadanland, Chief Sina Akinpelu has described the move by Oyo state government to create 32 beaded crown Oba in Ibadan as a gesture that is aimed at undermining the culture and tradition of Yorubaland and molest the tradition of Ibadan chieftaincy arrangement .
Chief Akinpelu while speaking with journalists in Ibadan also urge Olubadan of Ibadanland Oba Saliu Adetunji , Aje Ogunguniso 1 to remain steadfast on his position against the recommendations of the panel.
The traditional chief maintained that efforts to adjust the arrangement to accommodate 32 beaded crown in the city have the potential of brewing sibling rivalries and crisis in the town.
” It is obvious that some of the leaders and chiefs in Ibadan are on the same page with the government against the interests of majority of Ibadan indigenes and that put a question on their integrity and their indigeneship as an Ibadanman.
“ We know there are some desperate chiefs among them but those who are with Olubadan should remain resolute, and reject anything that may undermine our traditional institution in Ibadan, even if the new system must evolved, there must the a thorough consultation and acknowledgment by the stakeholders”
“Even if at all the government will do that few towns who were submerged by the forces in Ibadan during the early stage and those community heads who were demoted from kingship to Baale when they were captured by Ibadan warlord should only be given consideration and not every Tom Dick and Harry that he government wishes to assist”
He however cautions the governor Senator Abiola Ajimobi and other stakeholders involved in the proposed agenda to thread softly and guide against anything that may further split the common interest of Ibadan just to score cheap political goal or assist their favourites in getting to the throne,
