Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has dismissed reports alleging that the German government rejected his nomination as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany.
The claim, which gained traction on social media—particularly on X—suggested that Germany declined to accept his diplomatic posting.
Reacting via his X page, Fani-Kayode described the report as “fake news,” accusing political opponents of attempting to undermine his appointment.
“These opposition elements are so pained by my appointment that they are doing everything to discredit it. Whether they like it or not, I will serve my country,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to national service, insisting that the reports were baseless and aimed at frustrating his diplomatic role.
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had, on March 6, approved Fani-Kayode’s posting as an ambassador-designate to a Central European country.
However, a report by Peoples Gazette claimed that the German government rejected his nomination on March 13, 2026.
According to the publication, German authorities cited concerns over what they described as Fani-Kayode’s “erratic behaviour” and “controversial past statements,” including alleged ethnocentric, tribalistic, and religious comments, which they said could be destabilising.
As of press time, there has been no official confirmation from the Nigerian government or German authorities regarding the reported rejection.
