A member of Oyo state House of Assembly Mrs Bimbo Oladeji has raised an alarm on the need for the executive arm to take steps at reducing the menace of crimes among youths in the state.
The lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North constituency stated this in her motion presented during plenary on Tuesday
Oladeji observed that there has been increase in cases of gangsterism and hooliganism, especially among youths between the ages of 16 and 18 years
She also suggested that more juvenile homes with necessary facilities be established in the state.
In a resolution, Speaker of the House, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin urged the executive to build more schools with quality teachers and directed the House Committee on Information to make enquires on the awareness programmes of the executive on juvenile delinquency.
The House which had its first plenary of the year also expressed concern over the increasing rate of juvenile delinquency among out of school children in the state, attributing the development to poor parenting.
The house also advised the executive arm in the State through the Ministry of Women Affairs to urgently embark on sensitization programmes on the negative effect of delinquency among juveniles in the society.
