A federal lawmaker Hon Segun Dokun Odebunmi has called on Governors of the South West to commit more resources to Agriculture for food sufficiency and income generation
The All Progressives Congress APC Chieftain representing Ogo Oluwa/Surulere federal constituency said from all indications, the governors are not seriously committed to the sector as
most of them inititate projects with no sustainability plans.
“In a chat with Journalists in Ogbomoso, the lawmaker also frown at the way farmers are being denied access to loan facilities and other provisions by the Federal government to aide agriculture
” Unlike in the Northern part of the country where farmers enjoy government support and patronage , loan facilities, farm inputs and others .Our leaders here are busy dealing with political farmers when real farmers are suffering and wallowing in poverty
” We are endowed with natural potentials , our lands are green and fertile, there is no reasons for us to be poor, the demands for cassave , maize and others are on the high side in the market now yet we have land wasting away, the government need to be more committed”
Apart from food production, Agriculture also create jobs for younger generations” he said
Speaking on his contributions to promote Agriculture in his constituency, Hon Odebunmi said ” I am a farmer myself, i have a farm and i do interact with my people regularly, i do give them inputs such as seeds and fertilizers, facilitate loans and at times give them money from my account to fund cultivation of land and others.
