The Truth is bitter. I have never for once spared Tope Alabi whenever she was drunk on Ogogoro Jesu or danced like a slut. I never hide my feelings.
However, I am stunned that some of us who should understand her, particularly the omo Yoruba ponbele, are the ones pillorying her for employing the real language for which prayers are called and addressed.
Have we forgotten that ‘ Adura ni ebo onigbagbo?
In Catholic Church, the Mass
is the Ebo and we always pray to the Lord to accept our supplications via the Mass. Hence the song ‘ Tewo gbebo wa Baba wa tewogbebowa, ‘ Ebo is the prayer which you launch or supplicate to the Lord, the act of supplicating is the ‘ru’. It is not all that have the grace of having his prayers accepted by God. It is easy to supplicate (ru ebo) it is not easy for the supplication to be accepted by God (ye). It is the realisation of this that many people consult others to pray and supplicate for them, because, they have special Grace from God.
