Mr Patrick Aghamba, the Commissioner for Youth Development in Anambra State, and his wife were on friday kidnapped while en route to Abuja.
The incident occurred on the Kogi axis of when they were traveling to attend the wedding of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s daughter.
According to reports, the commissioner’s aide, Kpajie ABK Offiah, an Onitsha youth and a stalwart of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was fatally shot by the kidnappers during the attack.
The government of Anambra State has confirmed the incident, with the Press Secretary to Governor Soludo, Christian Aburime, stating that the authorities are still working to determine the exact location where the kidnapping took place. Mentions of both Ubiaja in Edo State and Kogi State have been made in connection to the incident.
This brazen attack on a senior government official and his family serves as a stark reminder of the security challenges that continue to plague the region.
