The Governor Seyi Makinde led administration in Oyo State has been hailed for taking up interest in investments on public water supply in the state.

A policy interest organization known as Seyi Makinde Movement for Good Governance in a press statement signed by its publicity secretary, Dr. Abdul-Marooph Adegoke noted that the decision of the Oyo State government to commit a whooping N3 billion investment in public water supply is a demonstration of the governor’s commitment to uplift the living standard of the people of Oyo State.

The press statement specifically acknowledged that the direction which the Makinde administration is taking on the particular issue of water investment in the state is novel because “previous administrations in the state had roundly abandoned this problem, thus making the people to seek self help with attendant consequence on geological impacts.”

“Once again, we are delighted that the Makinde administration has put critics wrong by blazing the trail in the provision of clean portable water for the rural people of Oyo State.

“As at today the government has hit the ground running with its plans as the Oyo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) has commissioned new borehole projects in Ire-Akari Estate, Asolo Area in Ona-Ara Local Government and Irepodun, Maku community in Akinyele Local Government of Oyo State with capacity to produce 10,000 liters of clean water per day.

“In the same vein, “the state government is working with all the local government Chairmen in the State to make a list of ten faulty boreholes in their areas for repair, in order to reduce the number of boreholes to be dug and be environmental friendly and as well cut cost.

“The governor has assured the people of the State of his readiness to make water available, both from the surface (dam) and from the deep ground, to ease the burden of our people’s quest for water.

“This is the first in a very long time that an administration in Oyo State would be having a state-wide approach towards confronting the problem of public water supply. We especially commend the governor for this act of public spirit and benevolence.

“This administration under the able watch of Engineer Seyi Makinde has thrown a figurative challenge to the saying that Rome was not built in day. Governor Makinde has demonstrated that with able hands at the helm of affairs, Rome should not have been built forever.”
