Oyo Development Vanguard, a socio- Political organization has called on the Police Commissioner to arrest and interrogate the Lawmaker representing Oyo South Senatorial District Sen Teslim Folarin for open display of sword during his gubernatorial on Tuesday
Senator Teslim had on Tuesday declared his intention to succeed governor Seyi Makinde as governor of the state in 2023
The group in a press release issued today in Ibadan signed by its Media Director, Ibrahim Adetunji said that ” it is worrisome that a man who aspires to govern Oyo State will go to a political rally with a sword and was unashamedly brandishing it at the rally”.
The Group further noted that the action of Senator Folarin “is a flagrant invitation to violence and does not portray the governorship aspirant as someone who will promote a peaceful electioneering as we approach 2023”.
It is also the opinion of the Group that brandishing dangerous weapons such as a sword in the public is “a criminal offence which the police authorities are hereby invited to investigate.
“The Commissioner of Police must invite Folarin to show cause why he should not be charged to court for this very disturbing act.”
The Group appealed to politicians of all parties not to destabilise the state because of their political ambition.
“The development of our State and the well-being of its people is of far greater importance than the desperation for power by our politicians,” the statement read.
Media and Publicity adviser the senator Elodyper Olaniyi while reacting said the politically-motivated misinterpretation by prepaid members of PDP is myopic and laughable.
He explained that Members of APC in Saabo community of Ibadan on Tuesday presented a sword to distinguished Senator Teslim Folarin as a mark of honour and in support of his Rescue Mission
The progressive party and distinguished Senator Folarin will continue to engage Governor Makinde-led outgoing government on issues bothering on the welfare of the good people of Oyo State and the progress of the Pacesetter State
