Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatai Ahmed has reiterated his administration commitment to free press in the state.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmed, Alhaji Abdulwahaab Oba disclosed this on Wednesday during a Press Briefing organized by National Moonlight Newspaper ahead its 4th anniversary ceremony at NUJ Press Centre, Ilorin.
Alhaji Abdulwahaab Oba said Kwara State Governor is operating a media friendly government, adding that the support given to journalists, Kwara Chapter of Nigerian Union Journalists and reform of state owned media houses show the state government is committed to press freedom.
He urged journalists to always base their report on truth and factual information in order to uphold ethics of the noble profession.
The CPS however advised newsmen to perform their social responsibility by confirming all sides the news before publishing and avoid spreading rumours ahead of 2019 general elections.
Oba noted that the Press Centre at the Governor’s Office is open for media practitioners to get firsthand information about current administration in the state.
He also commended them for effective coverage of Kwara State Government’s activities.
Earlier, the publisher of National Moonlight Newspaper, Alhaji Sulyman Olokoba announced Governor Ahmed has endorsed anniversary ceremony and awards of the newspaper.
