The Osun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has mobilised over 1,500 personnel, including Regular and Special Marshals, for its 2025 End-of-Year Special Operations tagged “Operation Zero Tolerance to Road Traffic Crashes Special Patrols.”
The operation, which runs nationwide from December 15, 2025, to January 15, 2026, is aimed at ensuring a safe and hitch-free movement of people during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Speaking through a press release issued in Osogbo on Sunday, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Leye Adegboyega, fsi, said the initiative became necessary due to the usual surge in vehicular movement during the ember months, often accompanied by traffic violations such as speeding, overloading, wrongful overtaking and route violations.
According to him, the Command has deployed 28 patrol vehicles across major highways in the state for traffic monitoring and emergency response, while four ambulances have been strategically positioned to provide rescue services to crash victims within a maximum response time of 10 minutes.
Adegboyega added that a heavy-duty tow truck has been made available for the removal of broken-down and crashed vehicles along key corridors, including Ilesa–Ife–Gbongan–Ikire, Osogbo–Sekona–Gbongan, and Osogbo–Ikirun–Offa routes, with additional support from private tow truck operators.
He explained that the Command would intensify public enlightenment campaigns, increase patrol visibility, prevent traffic gridlocks, and strengthen collaboration with stakeholders, including the media, to provide real-time traffic advisories. Motorists were also encouraged to report traffic incidents via the FRSC Mobile App.
As part of enforcement efforts, the Sector Commander disclosed that Mobile Court sittings have been intensified across the state, noting that 33 traffic offenders were already prosecuted during a sitting in Ile-Ife on Friday, December 19, 2025.
Over 50 critical traffic points across Osogbo, Ede, Ife, Ilesa, Ikirun, Iwo and Ikire have also been identified for special monitoring, while Help Areas have been activated at strategic locations such as Redeemer’s University/Akoda Junction, Iwaraja Junction, Wakajaye on Gbongan–Ife Expressway and Naira and Kobo Junction in Ikire.
Adegboyega further revealed that Roadside Clinics in Osogbo, Ilesa and Ipetu-Ijesa have been equipped for round-the-clock emergency care, alongside standby night rescue teams across the 14 FRSC Commands in the state.
He assured that the Command is working closely with sister security agencies and the Federal Ministry of Works to address bad road segments identified during road audit exercises, particularly along the Ikire–Gbongan–Ife–Ilesa corridor, to reduce congestion and crashes.
While wishing motorists safe travels and happy celebrations, the Sector Commander reaffirmed FRSC’s commitment to protecting lives and property on Osun roads, warning that traffic offenders would be decisively dealt with throughout the operation.
