The Osun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has mobilised more than 1,500 personnel and other operational resources to ensure safe and hitch-free movement of motorists during the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The special patrol operations, which will run from March 17 to March 22, are aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and ensuring smooth traffic flow across major highways in the state.
Sector Commander of the Corps in Osun, Leye Adegboyega, disclosed this in a press statement issued in Osogbo, noting that the personnel deployed include both Regular and Special Marshals spread across the state’s 14 FRSC commands.
Adegboyega explained that the initiative became necessary due to the expected increase in vehicular movement during the festive period, particularly as Osun shares borders with Oyo and Kwara states, which also have large Muslim populations celebrating the festival.
According to him, increased travel during the period often leads to traffic violations such as over-speeding, overloading, wrongful overtaking and route violations, which contribute significantly to road traffic crashes.
To address these challenges, the command has rolled out several strategies including increased visibility of operatives, intensified public enlightenment campaigns, prevention of traffic gridlocks, and prompt rescue response for crash victims.
The FRSC boss said the command has deployed 28 patrol vehicles across major routes in the state to ensure effective traffic monitoring and quick intervention in emergencies.
He added that four ambulances have been strategically positioned to provide rescue services to crash victims within a maximum response time of 10 minutes, while a heavy-duty tow truck has been stationed to remove broken-down or crashed vehicles along key road corridors including Ilesa–Ife–Gbongan–Ikire, Osogbo–Sekona–Gbongan, and Osogbo–Ikirun–Offa routes.
Adegboyega also noted that the command would intensify collaboration with private tow truck operators to clear road obstructions quickly.
As part of the enforcement drive, the command will conduct mobile court sittings across the state to prosecute traffic offenders and ensure strict compliance with road safety regulations.
Personnel have also been deployed to monitor and control traffic at more than 50 critical locations across the state, including Aregbe Junction, LAMECO Junction, Okefia Roundabout, Old Garage and Stadium Roundabout in Osogbo, as well as busy markets and junctions in Ede, Ife, Ilesa, Ikirun, Iwo and Apomu/Ikire.
The command further disclosed that its roadside clinics in Osogbo, Ilesa and Ipetu-Ijesa have been equipped to provide round-the-clock emergency attention to crash victims before they are transferred to hospitals for further treatment if necessary.
Night rescue teams have also been placed on standby across all FRSC commands in the state to respond promptly to incidents that may occur during night travel.
Adegboyega reaffirmed the command’s commitment to collaboration with relevant stakeholders and other security agencies to ensure effective service delivery during the festive period.
He urged motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations while wishing them safe journeys and a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
