The death has occurred of an 88 years old elder statesman and Sardaunan Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji in Abuja, a family source confirmed.
The respected Alhaji Alhaji, according to the family source died in Abuja due to age related ailment.
Late Alhaji Alhaji who served as
Nigeria’s Minister of Finance during the reign of former military President General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida between 1985 and 1986 was at one point a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, and Nigeria’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
The calm, soft spoken but unimaginably intelligent Alhaji Alhaji during his hay days served Nigeria in different capacities.
Until his death, Alhaji Alhaji holds the revered traditional title of Sardaunan Sokoto, the title once held by the then Northern Nigeria Premier, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
Though, no official communication on the burial arrangement as of the time of filing this report, but the family source confirmed that it will soon be made available in compliance with Islamic rites.
The late Alhaji Alhaji was born to the family of Muhammed Sani on 12 November 1938. Some literatures claimed he was named Alhaji Alhaji because he was born on the day of Sallah and went for pilgrimage to Mecca.
He began his secondary education in Kano before transferring to Katsina Government College.
In his quest for knowledge, the then young Alhaji Alhaji proceeded to the Bournemouth College of Commerce and University of Reading, Berkshire where he earned a degree in political economy.
With the nursing desire for more knowledge, Alhaji Alhaji Fu went for advanced courses at the Hague Institute of Social Services and the IMF Institute, Washington.
