The Alaperu of Iperu-Remo, Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu Basibo, Odoru V, has joined his ancestors today, February 6, 2025.
The revered monarch, who ascended the throne on February 7, 2002, was a distinguished ruler known for his wisdom, leadership, and commitment to the development of Iperu-Remo and the entire Remo community.
Born into the Basibo royal family, Oba Basibo was a direct descendant of Oba Basibo III through his granddaughter, Metuluko. His path to the throne was seen as a natural progression, as he was deeply rooted in the traditions of the land.
From an early age, Oba Basibo was nurtured in a disciplined and academically driven environment. His parents ensured he had access to the best education available at the time. He furthered his studies at Morley College and South Bank University, Elephant and Castle, London, where he specialized in Economics, Shipping, and Marine Operations.
Beyond academics, the late monarch was also a sportsman, embodying the spirit of both intellectual and physical strength. His global exposure shaped his leadership style, blending tradition with modern governance to advance Iperu-Remo.
Having ruled for 23 years, Oba Basibo oversaw significant growth in Iperu-Remo. His reign witnessed infrastructural development, youth empowerment initiatives, and cultural revitalization efforts. His passion for education and commerce helped foster local enterprises and strengthened the town’s economic base.
As the community mourns the loss of a beloved king, tributes continue to pour in from traditional rulers, political leaders, and citizens. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the royal family in due course.
