The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ending insecurity across Nigeria, unveiling renewed strategies centred on proactive operations, strategic planning and stronger collaboration with state governments.
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Muhammad Matawalle, gave the assurance during a condolence and assessment visit to the Kano State Government House following the August 29, 2026 bandit attack on Chiroma Village in Garun Mallam Local Government Area.
Matawalle said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remained determined to defeat insecurity and restore lasting peace across the country.
According to him, the President has constituted a committee to develop a Five-Year Defence and Security Plan aimed at providing a long-term framework for addressing security threats nationwide.
“The President has constituted a committee to develop a Five-Year Defence and Security Plan. This will guide our long-term approach to tackling security threats across the country,” the minister said.
He disclosed that following the Garun Mallam attack, the Commander of 3 Brigade, Kano, Brigadier General Jimoh, led a swift joint rescue operation alongside personnel of the Joint Task Force from Hawan-Kwano and Kwanar Dangora camps.
The operation, he said, resulted in the successful rescue of kidnapped victims around Yan-Kifi Bridge and Marabar Kwari areas of Garun Mallam Local Government Area.
Matawalle commended the troops for their courage and prompt response, assuring that the Federal Government would continue to strengthen the operational capacity of the Armed Forces and other security agencies.
“We will continue doing everything possible to support our security services to ensure our country is safe. I assure you that soon, insecurity will be a thing of the past, and we will all live in peace and prosperity,” he said.
The minister stressed that the fight against insecurity required collective efforts from the federal, state and local governments, as well as citizens who must provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
He also assured the Kano State Government of increased federal support, including the deployment of additional fighting vehicles, weapons and other operational resources to boost security operations in the state.
Earlier, Matawalle held a closed-door security meeting with commanders of 3 Brigade and other military formations in Kano, charging them to sustain ongoing operations and intensify efforts to protect vulnerable communities.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s determination to provide the necessary resources and support required to safeguard lives and property and protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
In his remarks, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, thanked the minister for the visit and pledged the state government’s continued collaboration with the Federal Government to strengthen security.
The governor expressed confidence in the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the security challenges confronting the country, pledging that Kano State would continue to take necessary measures to ensure peace and stability across the state.
