Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, has officially matriculated 574 students into its 12 accredited National Diploma (ND) programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony held at the institution’s temporary site in Iresa-Pupa, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, described the event as a significant milestone.

He commended the new students for their dedication and assured them of the institution’s commitment to providing quality technical and vocational education aligned with industry demands.

“Since its establishment in March 2021, the Polytechnic has grown rapidly, achieving the highest enrollment figures among its peers, with over 1,200 students currently enrolled,” Dr. Abdul-Hameed stated.

He added that efforts are underway to expand the institution’s academic offerings, with the Office Technology and Management programme set to commence soon and 29 additional programmes under review for accreditation.

The Rector also revealed that 44 students are currently benefiting from the NELFUND loan scheme, with more applications in process.

Addressing reports of a building collapse at the Polytechnic, Dr. Abdul-Hameed dismissed the claims as misleading. He clarified that the issue was a minor structural defect involving a cantilever under construction, which the contractor is already fixing under strict supervision. He urged the public to disregard the misinformation.

The Rector acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and called for increased funding, particularly for infrastructure and research. He appealed to the Federal Government for special intervention programmes to aid expansion and improve road access to the Polytechnic.

The matriculation ceremony was graced by key stakeholders in the education sector, including the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Bugaje, represented by Dr. John Onyebuchi; representatives from the Federal Ministry of Education; traditional ruler of Iresa-Pupa, Oba Moses Olayiwola Ajiboye JP; and heads of several tertiary institutions.

Others present included top management staff of the Polytechnic, deans of schools, directors of centers, heads of departments, and students.

The event marked another step in the institution’s journey toward becoming a leading polytechnic in Nigeria.
