Former Ekiti State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Ayodele Fayose, has publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office. Fayose also declared his support for Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and his deputy, backing them for another term.
Fayose made the announcement on Monday during an All Progressives Congress (APC) event held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado Ekiti, describing the gathering as historic and unifying for the state.
“I want to join all well-meaning Nigerians, particularly Ekiti leaders and followers, to endorse publicly, without reservation, the President and Commander of the Armed Forces, President Bola Tinubu, for a second term. I also endorse our Governor, Abayomi Oyebanji, and his deputy for a second term,” he stated.
The event was attended by prominent political leaders, including former Ekiti governors and National Assembly members. Despite his bold endorsement, Fayose clarified that he has not defected to the APC, reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP. He referenced his 2014 landslide victory when he won all 16 local government areas of the state.
“Who will again become the record holder to win all 16 LGAs and all 177 wards of Ekiti? That is taken for granted. But when we get to the field, we will contest and see each other,” Fayose said confidently.
He urged Ekiti residents to rally behind Governor Oyebanji in the upcoming gubernatorial election, while also throwing jabs at the APC, asserting that the PDP remains superior in delivering welfare and development to the people.
Despite his party affiliation, Fayose pledged to support Governor Oyebanji’s re-election bid, saying the future of the state should take precedence over partisan politics.
