The Ige Olakulehin family has formally announced the passing of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Dr. Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin Ige Olakulehin I, who died peacefully in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.
The announcement was made by a family representative, Chief Toye Arulogun, a former Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism.
“With utmost and profound gratitude to Almighty God, on behalf of the Ige Olakulehin family, I announce the passing on of His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr.) Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, who joined his ancestors in the early hours of today,” Arulogun said.
He described the late monarch as a distinguished and impactful figure whose life spanned remarkable achievements in the military, business, politics, and traditional leadership.
“We are not mourning the passage of the monarch but celebrating his life. He lived an impactful life throughout his 90-year journey. From his military career to business, politics, and his ascension to the throne just a year ago, Kaabiyesi demonstrated exceptional qualities worthy of emulation,” Arulogun added.
The family also stated that periodic updates would be provided regarding burial arrangements and related developments.
It will be recalled that Oba Olakulehin recently marked his 90th birthday on Saturday, July 4, 2025. Events celebrating his first coronation anniversary, scheduled for Saturday, July 12, had already commenced with charitable donations, hospital visitations, the conferment of honorary chieftaincy titles, and the ongoing Olubadan Olakulehin Football Cup, which reached the semi-final stage on Sunday.
Since news of his transition broke, dignitaries from all walks of life have continued to visit his Alalubosa residence to pay their respects and offer condolences.
