Former gubernatorial aspirant under the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC), in Oyo State, Senator Gbenga Babalola has dumped his former party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Babalola who joined APC few days to the gubernatorial election, said that he joined the APC due to the popularity of President Muhammadu Buhari and his achievements.
The Iseyin-born politician who represented Oyo North Senatorial district between 2007 and 2011 while speaking in an interview with journalists in Ibadan, the state capital said that the choice of Mr. Adebayo Adelabu of APC was no doubt the best decision for the people of the state.
He maintained that the ADC in the state has become a party without structure because it has no recognisable leader.
Babalola said “I told you that I am a Buharist. I am an APC man by heart. I tried to sojourn, though you know that we started as conservatives, I am not surprised that I am in APC because my people in Oke Ogun here in Iseyin wIll always be in the progressive camp.
“Honestly, I looked around and I found out that there is no other place to go. I have tried to sojourn, even when I was in the senate, I was always at the other side. My view always coincided with the progressives; my voice always coincided with the progressives.
“Adelabu is perfect for Oyo State and he’s good for us and development of our state. I see that for the first time, a young man who will be in the helms of affairs. We are going to have fresh hand.
“ADC is predominantly owned by a branch of APC, so if they are going today, I will say that ADC today has no leadership structure in Oyo state.
“So if anybody tells you that he is the leader he is deceiving himself. Our people know what they want and we told our people, it is not about Seyi Makinde or Adelabu, it is about our future of the state. So that is the bottom line.
“I as I am sitting down here, I may be very small, but I know what God has used me to do for Oyo state.
