His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Mustapha Umar Mustapha Aliyu II, CON, the Emir of Biu, has conferred the prestigious traditional title of Sarkin Yaki of Biu Emirate on Major General Bulama Biu (Rtd.), in recognition of his immense contributions to security and peace in Biu Emirate, Borno State, and Nigeria at large.

Speaking at the announcement, the Emir lauded General Bulama Biu’s unwavering dedication and patriotic service, particularly in leading military operations against Boko Haram insurgents. He described the retired general as a true and worthy son of the emirate, whose bravery and commitment to national security have significantly contributed to the restoration of peace in the region.
“The people of Biu Emirate are proud of you as a very distinguished professional soldier,” the Emir stated, commending General Biu’s bold and strategic military interventions.
Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Lt. General (Rtd.) Tukur Buratai, CFR, also praised the Emir for bestowing the honor on General Bulama Biu. He highlighted the general’s remarkable achievements, particularly during his tenure as General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander of Sector 3, Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
“General Bulama Biu’s role in fighting Boko Haram and his professional military engagements will not be forgotten soon,” Buratai said, noting that the honoree comes from a distinguished military background, as the son of the late Major Bulama Biu, MON, the first Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
In the same vein, Borno State Deputy Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, congratulated General Bulama Biu on the well-deserved honor. He acknowledged the retired general’s fearless and pragmatic leadership in combating insurgency, highlighting his strong relationship with the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) and local hunters, which contributed significantly to security efforts in the state.
“We are all witnesses to how General Bulama Biu displayed an exceptional level of military dexterity in fighting Boko Haram. He was always in the field, never relenting, and highly respected by his troops,” Kadafur stated.
The traditional turbanning ceremony is scheduled to take place on a date to be announced later.
