Ekiti State House of Assembly has passed three amendment bills.
The bills are Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development Agency (Amendment) Bill 2017, Local Government Administration (Amendment) Bill, 2017 and Ekiti State Joint Local Government Account and Allocation of Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2017.
The three bills were at plenary in Ado Ekiti after a thorough debate in which the lawmakers canvassed for their speedy consideration. Members including Honourables Akinleye Ekundayo, Anifowose Badejo, Akinniyi Sunday and the Chairman House committee on Information, Hon (Dr) Omotoso Samuel highlighted the various advantages of the amendments and pointed out that they will be of immense benefit to Ekiti people.
Moving the motion for the approval of the bills, the Leader of Government Business, Hon Akinyele Olatunji said the Primary Health care amendment bill will address effective health care delivery at the grassroots.
They described the amendment as timely, adding that it will make the health sector function effectively at the local government level. The Local Government Administration (Amendment) Bill was passed to expunge the primary Health department from departments at the local government level.
The House also amended the Ekiti State Joint Local Government Account and Allocation of Revenue to enable the government to put the payment of salaries of primary school teachers, primary health care workers , local government workers and 5 percent of statutory allocation in the account for the payment of traditional rulers on first line charge.
In his reaction, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole said the amendment will improve efficiency and develop primary health care at the local government level. He also remarked that it would reduce delay in bottleneck as well as boost the morale of staff at the primary health care agency. Pastor Oluwawole said the amendment has removed any ambiguity in Matters relating to primary health care delivery in Ekiti State.
