An uncompleted two storey building located at along Jericho/Eleyele road Ibadan on Tuesday afternoon collapsed leaving eight people working on the site injured.
The building which is under construction collapsed around 4pm on Tuesday while worker on the site are still working on it.
An eye witness, who was also one of the workers working one the site, Kazeem Adebayo said that working was still ongoing in the building before the unfortunate incident happened.
“We have been complaining to the site engineer that the pole that was used to support the decking was not strong enough to hold it, but all our advice was rendered useless as the site engineer was only concern about the completion of the work, although, nobody died in the collapsed building, but eight person was wounded and they have been taking to Jericho Specialist Hospital for treatment”.
While talking to journalists at the site of the incident, Olatunji Bolu who was a representative of the Oyo State Architectural Registration Council of Nigeria said that the body are still accessing the incident to know the causes and how to find a solution to it.
” Firstly, we need to do a critical investigation so that we can know the actual cause of the incident, and talk to the contractor of the project, then we can know the exalt cause of the incident”.
He noted that the building collapsed incident is not only limited to Ibadan alone, but it cut across the country, adding that professionals should be always employed to work on construction.
“We should stop using people who are not qualify to be in charge of construction in Nigeria, licensed and professional people should be saddled with the responsibilities of construction work, not the novices.”
However, the Oyo State Physical Planing and Urban Development has sealed the site, ordering the stoppage of work at the site till further notice.
