The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has dismissed claims suggesting a decline in the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) for February 2025, labeling the allegations as misleading and politically motivated.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the EIRS refuted assertions made by one Ifaluyi Isibor, who claimed that the state’s IGR had fallen from ₦4.7 billion in January to ₦3.4 billion in February.

Describing the claims as “dubious, deliberately misleading, and dishonest,” the agency insisted that Edo’s revenue collection remains on an upward trajectory, with February’s IGR standing at over ₦9.5 billion—an amount it says surpasses any figure attained by previous administrations.

“It is disheartening that supposedly educated Edo State citizens would spew out such nonsense for political expediency. Such actions not only mislead the public but also undermine the efforts of those working tirelessly to ensure sustainable economic development in our state,” the statement read.

The EIRS emphasized that all government revenue is consolidated into a single figure, dismissing any suggestion of separate IGR sources. The agency also reiterated its commitment to tackling illegal revenue collection and urged the public to report unauthorized collectors.

The revenue agency assured residents that it remains professional in its operations and dedicated to improving revenue generation for the development of Edo State.

EIRS’ Position on Revenue Performance

  1. The state’s IGR for February 2025 exceeded ₦9.5 billion, contrary to the claims of a decline.
  2. The revenue trajectory remains stable and progressive, with no drop as alleged.
  3. The EIRS denounces the spread of unverified figures and insists that its revenue data is accurate.
  4. All state revenue sources are consolidated into a single IGR figure, with no distinction between different streams.
  5. The agency remains committed to fighting illegal revenue collection by unauthorized individuals.

The statement, signed by Courage Eboigbe, Head of Corporate Communications at Edo IRS, reassured the public of the agency’s transparency and effectiveness in revenue collection.
