An expert in Agribusiness Mr Sola Adeleke has called on farmers to factor irrigation into their planning for the coming planting season

Adeleke in a chat with National Insight said this will enhance increase in productivity and cut the risk of drought

The chief Operating officer Ridges and Furrow said nobody can predict the level of rainfall next year but to avoid another loss, irrigation should be adopted.

He noted that despite the increasing in the number of young farmers and huge investment in Agriculture, the absence of adequate rainfall has distorted the productivity and expectations of farmers

.”Majority of the farmers who planted for Maize for dry seasons don’t really have good harvest this year, many did not even grow to the point of pollination let along producing grains, this is not good enough”

Adeleke said government should also encourage more farmers by creating soft loans and with a least a year moratorium for farmers.

Investment in Agriculture is not a waste, it would not only generate revenue but create employment and food
