Following months of inconveniences caused by the bridge collapse, Oyo lawmaker, Hon. Bisi Oluranti Micheal, representing Ogbomoso North State Constituency, has made a plea to Governor Seyi Makinde to act swiftly in aiding the residents of the Akowonjo area, and other communities facing similar challenges during this rainy season.
She made the call on Tuesday while inspecting the Akowonjo bridge, which has been severely damaged by drainage and is causing immense suffering for numerous families.
According to the lawmaker, the bridge caved in as a result of the downpour and the consequent flood that also swept many structures within that vicinity away.
Stressing that she had once moved a motion on the urgent intervention at the floor of the House, she highlighted challenges being faced by residents of the area.
The lawmaker said: “We are appealing to Oyo State Government to act swiftly to save the lives of the people living in the Akowonjo area by fixing the bridge or creating a tentative road for residents.
“I moved the motion lately to seek government intervention of the bridge, so I’m sure everyone is aware of the complaints from the residents.
“In order to expedite the construction process, we hope that something is done as soon as possible. The rainy season has already begun. I can assure the community and all users of the roads that there will be a major improvement.”
