Dotun Oladipo, founder and Managing Editor of Eagle Online and former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), has died at the age of 56.
Oladipo reportedly took ill suddenly in his office on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, and was later rushed to a hospital, where he died hours later.
His death was confirmed by GOCOP President, Danlami Nmodu, who announced the development on the guild’s WhatsApp platform late Tuesday.
“It has just been confirmed that Emeritus President, Mr Dotun Oladipo, died today,” Nmodu wrote.
“May his soul rest in peace. Amen.”
Oladipo was also the founding President of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS).
The General Secretary of IMPCMS, Nkanu Egbe, announced his death in a statement on Wednesday morning, describing it as a devastating loss to the cooperative and the Nigerian journalism profession.
“It is with profound sorrow that I announce the sudden death of our President, Mr Dotun Oladipo, who passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in Lagos, at the age of 56,” the statement said.
Egbe said Oladipo led the cooperative with dedication while building a distinguished journalism career spanning nearly three decades.
He described his death as “a devastating loss not only to IMPCMS but to Nigerian journalism as a whole.”
The cooperative said further details on funeral arrangements, condolence visits and interim leadership would be communicated in due course, while members were urged to keep his family and the organisation in their prayers.
Oladipo was the Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited, the publisher of Eagle Online.
Before establishing Eagle Online, he worked as a politics editor at PUNCH Newspapers and also served with Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass and The Sun.
His death has been described as a major loss to Nigeria’s media industry, coming after nearly three decades of active journalism and leadership in the emerging online publishing sector.
