Disaster Management: Oyo NSCDC Sensitizes Public on Fire Outbreak Prevention

The Oyo State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) CC Michael Adaralewa has called on all Divisional officers and all Disaster management desk officers across the 33 local government and 35 Local council development areas (lcda) to continue their sensitization awareness on the danger of bush burning and hoarding of fuel at home during this period of scarcity.

Commandant Adaralewa gave the charge today during a forum with all Disaster Managers across the Pacesetters State at the State Command Headquarters, old Nitel building Agodi Ibadan as a wake up call for fire preventions, mitigation and preparedness for the dangers posses during indiscriminate bush burning and hoarding of fuel due to scarcity of the commodity. He said bush burning destroys the ecosystem and increase the effects of climate change.

Meanwhile, Commandant Michael Adaralewa stated that ” indiscriminate bush burning at this period of dry season should be avoided as this could extend to neighbouring farmlands and houses, and if such houses hoards fuel, it may caused serious damages to life’s and properties of the citizens as a result”.

He enjoined the citizens of the State to properly disposed dried leaves and papers, while electrical appliances should also be switched off and unplugged when not in use. All these preventive measures would go a long way as mitigating it’s impacts.

Commandant Adaralewa later urged the good people of the State to be careful in dealing with fire during this period, stressing the need for all to have extinguisher in our houses, offices and markets. He assured the residents of the State that officers and men of Oyo NSCDC would be on alert to respond to any case of fire outbreak in synergy with all stakeholders in disaster management in the State.
