Democracy Day: Geneith Health Competition Rallies Youths for Malaria-Free Nigeria

As Nigeria commemorated Democracy Day, the leadership of the Geneith Health Competition (GHC) joined millions of citizens in celebrating the nation’s democratic journey while applauding the growing wave of public support behind the movement to eliminate malaria across the country.

In a joint Democracy Day message, the Initiator of the Geneith Health Competition and Managing Director of CEOAFRICA, Prince Cletus Iloabanafor, alongside the Chairman of Geneith Pharmaceuticals and Sponsor of the initiative, Prince Ilobanafor , announced that the competition—powered by Coatal Forte Softgel—continues to attract overwhelming participation from young Nigerians, student leaders, and community advocates nationwide. They described the increasing enthusiasm as evidence of a national awakening and a renewed commitment to public health transformation.

The leaders noted that Democracy Day symbolizes more than political freedom, emphasizing that true national progress must also include freedom from preventable diseases that continue to affect millions of Nigerians.

According to them, the growing interest in the Geneith Health Competition reflects the determination of young people to take ownership of the country’s health future and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

Their message comes at a significant moment following the passage of the National Agency for Malaria Elimination Bill by the Nigerian Senate, a landmark legislative development widely regarded as a major step toward strengthening Nigeria’s fight against malaria.

The GHC leadership commended the initiative and expressed support for the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to prioritize healthcare, disease prevention, and improved public health outcomes as critical pillars of national development.

Speaking on the significance of the campaign, Mr Emmanuel Umenwa stressed that malaria elimination is both achievable and necessary.

He cited examples of countries that have successfully overcome the disease, maintaining that Nigeria possesses the resources, expertise, and human capacity required to achieve the same feat. He added that future generations deserve to inherit a healthier society built on the commitment and sacrifices of today’s citizens.
Umenwa further identified students and young people as the driving force behind the movement, noting that their creativity, innovation, and energy position them as powerful agents of change capable of transforming health outcomes across communities nationwide.

Echoing this sentiment, Iloabanafor described the increasing number of youths seeking to join the initiative as proof that Nigerians are ready to take collective action against malaria. According to him, the steady influx of prospective participants demonstrates a growing national consciousness and a willingness among citizens to support causes that directly improve lives and strengthen communities.

He called on stakeholders across the public and private sectors to sustain awareness efforts and keep the fight against malaria firmly in the national spotlight. He also urged students in secondary schools and tertiary institutions to embrace their roles as Anti-Malaria Ambassadors and champion grassroots advocacy campaigns within their respective communities.

The GHC leadership emphasized that defeating malaria requires a united effort involving government, the private sector, educational institutions, community leaders, development partners, and ordinary citizens. They called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to translate policy initiatives into measurable impact and ensure that the vision of a malaria-free Nigeria becomes a reality.

As the nation celebrates another year of democratic governance, the Geneith Health Competition leadership challenged Nigerians to be more determined in the fight against malaria. They described the campaign as a national movement capable of safeguarding lives, strengthening communities, and securing a healthier future for generations to come.

Registration for the Geneith Health Competition remains ongoing, with students across Nigeria continuing to enroll through www.geneithhealthcompetition.com as the movement gains momentum in its mission to eliminate malaria and transform the nation’s health landscape. Suggest headline

Oriire Kidnapping: Stop Politicising Amotekun Casualty Figures, Oyelade Tells Opposition

The Oyo State Government has cautioned opposition politicians against politicising the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area, insisting that misleading narratives about the state security outfit, Amotekun Corps, are unhelpful to ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity. The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, made the appeal in a statement issued on Thursday, saying Governor Seyi Makinde's recent disclosure that about 200 operatives of the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) had died since the organisation's establishment six years ago was being deliberately misrepresented. According to Oyelade, some opposition elements had wrongly linked the figure to the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire, thereby creating a false impression that the casualties occurred during the incident. He described the interpretation as "cheap politics," stressing that no Amotekun operative lost his life in connection with the Oriire kidnapping. "For the opposition to turn the statistics on its head is nothing but cheap politics. Amotekun has not lost a single operative in the Oriire kidnapping incident. The only casualty recorded was a personnel who sustained injuries and is currently recuperating," he stated. The commissioner explained that the 200 deaths recorded since the creation of the corps in 2020 resulted from various causes, including illnesses, natural causes and fatalities sustained during security operations. He added that due procedures were followed in all cases, including notification of the families of deceased personnel. Oyelade maintained that the Oyo State Amotekun Corps remains the most funded and best-equipped security outfit in the South-West, noting that it currently operates 181 vehicles and 450 motorcycles, with a workforce of more than 2,500 personnel. He said the corps is the largest Amotekun formation in the region and one of the best remunerated. The commissioner further recalled that Governor Makinde had consistently advocated state policing and the deployment of superior weapons to security agencies since 2021 to enable them effectively confront bandits and kidnappers. According to him, the governor's repeated calls have received little attention despite the growing security challenges across the country. Oyelade urged political actors to approach the security situation from a non-partisan perspective and avoid statements capable of undermining rescue efforts or endangering lives. He also appealed to residents of the state to continue supporting the government and security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and security across Oyo State.
