A popular Ibadan- based Fuji musician, Adebisi Taiwo Akande (a.k.a. Taye Currency), has rejected the mode of apology and retraction offered by Bamidele Adeyanju of Agbaletu” TV Show, over defamatory interview aired against him, asking him to do so through the same channel in order to satisfy the principle of equal prominence.
Adeyanju had interviewed a musician, Ridwan Rolex Dee, who allegedly threatened to eliminate Taye Currency over an issue, which the Oyo State Police Commissioner has been petitioned to investigate. However, Adeyanju had apologized and pulled down the interview as a means of remedy, but Taye Currency said that he should do the apology and retraction on the live on-air “Agbaletu TV Show” through which the defamatory interview was aired.
Writing through his lawyer, Dr. Olutayo Oyewale, in a rejoinder letter dated 31 March, 2026, Taye Currency said, “it is both legally and morally untenable to suggest that any form of retraction, clarification, or apology be issued in a manner that does not correspond with the medium through which the injury was inflicted. In the circumstances, my position remains that any retraction, apology, or corrective statement must be made on your live on-air show, in clear and unequivocal terms, and in a manner that sufficiently addresses the harm caused by you”.
Bamidele Agbaletu of the “Agbaletu TV Show” had through his lawyer, Olohunloye Ibraheem, in a letter dated 30 March, 2026, said that his client and his establishment are not out to taint, threaten or bully anyone whatsoever, including Oyewale’s client. “It becomes imperative to state that our client in his practice as a media practitioner reiterates the ubiquitous “opinions expressed disclaimer” on his social media platforms and as such excuses and dissociates himself from the views expressed by Ridwan Rolex Dee or ensuing displeasure expressed by your client towards the expressions of Ridwan Rolex Dee.
“Our client in exhibiting his knowledge of the regulatory framework, swiftly brought down the said video from which Ridwan Rolex Dee’s words have been subjected to a magnitude of maligning interpretations, discarded with it and dissociated from it. On 24 March, 2026, our client also made a retraction of the video and informed his fans, friends and well wishers this: “In the spirit of peace and respect for those who have reached out to me, I will be removing the videos from my timeline.
“Consequent upon the foregoing, we state that the video has been withdrawn from circulation through all our client’s media page and vouch that a similarity of such won’t repeat itself against your client”.
In spite of these, Taye Currency, through his lawyer, Dr. Olutayo Oyewale, insisted the apology and retraction must be done on the “Agbaletu TV Show” through which the infraction was committed, else a legal action would be instituted against Bamidele Agbaletu and his establishment.
“May we state in clear terms that our client desires a full retraction on your client’s live show tagged ‘Agbaletu’ and retract same to the general public and apologize to our client on the same live show, and this will be widely acceptable to our client forthwith”, the lawyer insisted.
