The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction and sentencing of Babatunde Peter Olaitan, also known as TDollar, and Tobilola Olamide, popularly known as Tobi Nation, to six months’ imprisonment each for abusing the Naira.
Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, delivered the judgement on Thursday, May 8, 2025, after the two pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of tampering with Naira notes by spraying them during a social event.
Olaitan’s charge read: “That you, BABATUNDE PETER OLAITAN, on 8th April 2025, at 23, Macdonald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, whilst dancing during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N200 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying it, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”
Olamide faced a similar charge, also involving the spraying of N200 notes during the same event.
Following their guilty pleas, prosecution counsel C.C. Okezie and H.U. KofarNaisa presented evidence through EFCC investigative officer Ibrahim Bukar, who told the court that the commission launched an investigation on April 10, 2025, based on a viral TikTok video showing the defendants spraying Naira notes.
Bukar said Olaitan (TDollar) reported to the EFCC on May 5 and admitted that a fan had gifted him N200 notes at a nightclub, which he then sprayed on others. His confession and the viral video were admitted in court as evidence.
After reviewing the facts, the prosecution prayed the court to convict and sentence the duo. Justice Owoeye subsequently handed each of them a six-month jail term with an option of a N200,000 fine.
Their journey to the correctional centre began with their arrest by EFCC operatives for Naira mutilation and ended in conviction for violating Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.
