As the Nigerian media and broadcast industry continues to evolve, the contributions of visionary leaders who have championed its growth and development cannot be overstated. One such remarkable figure is Hon. Segun Dokun Odebunmi, a former lawmaker who represented the Surulere Ogo Oluwa Federal Constituency in the 7th, 8th and 9th Assembly of the Nigerian National Assembly.

During his distinguished tenure, Hon. Odebunmi served as the Chairman of the National Assembly Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Value. In this pivotal role, he leveraged his passion for the media and unwavering commitment to the advancement of the industry.

One of Hon. Odebunmi’s most notable contributions was his sponsorship of the Journalism Enhancement Bill before the National Assembly. This groundbreaking legislation aimed to strengthen the professional standards, ethics and overall capacity of the journalism profession in Nigeria. By championing this bill, Hon. Odebunmi demonstrated a deep understanding of the critical role that a robust and responsible media plays in the fabric of a democratic society.

But Hon. Odebunmi’s impact extended far beyond the legislative chamber. He actively used his position to enhance the broadcast industry in Nigeria, working tirelessly to create an enabling environment for media professionals to thrive. His unwavering support and advocacy for the sector have not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by the recent honor bestowed upon him by the Nigeria Society of Broadcasters.
