Two prominent Nigerian musicians, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2baba, and Teniola Apata, professionally known as Teni, are among the eminent personalities listed for National Honours.
The duo is one of 56 people who will be awarded MEMBER OF THE ORDER OF THE NIGER (MON).
In all, 437 Nigerians will bag various categories of the award.
The MON award, will be formally conferred on 2face, Teni and others at a ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
2baba is a musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, humanitarian, and activist. known for his vocal range, lyrical depth, and longevity.
Idibia has received numerous awards, including the MTV Europe Music Award, the World Music Award, the Headies Awards (Hip-hop award), the Channel O Music Video Awards, the BET Award for his musical work, four MTV Africa Music Awards, the MOBO Award, the KORA Award, the Afrima Awards, and numerous other nominations.
In May 2016, 2Baba received an honorary Master of Arts in Music degree from Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, Nigeria.
In March 2019, he was awarded an honorary fellowship of the school of music by the Music Department, Obafemi Awolowo University.
Teni the Entertainer, who released her debut EP, Billionaire, on October 11th, 2019. The “Billionaire EP” has also won numerous awards, including The Headies Rookie of the Year 2019, Soundcity MVP Award,Best New Artist, among others.
Also, Rashidi Yekini, an award-winning soccer star who died in 2012, was lost among the awardees for MON.
Yekini scored 37 goals as a Nigerian international footballer, and represented the nation in seven major tournaments, including two World Cups where he scored the country’s first-ever goal in the competition.
