The Oyo political landscape has been plunged into mourning following the death of Hon. Chief Ayoola Makanjuola Joe, widely known as Makenson, a veteran Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) politician and former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Oyo State.
Makenson, who also served as Executive Chairman of Atisbo Local Government and was a respected community leader — holding the traditional titles of Bobagunwa Aare of Ofiki Land and Odofin of Ago-Are — passed away on Friday evening.
His death was confirmed by community sources and political associates.
Born in Ago-Are, Makenson rose to prominence in both traditional and political spheres.
He led Atisbo Local Government with distinction and later served in the Oyo State Executive Council as Commissioner for Youth and Sports during late Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala ‘s tenure where he was known for his work in youth development and sports promotion across the state.
Leaders from the Ago-Are community and the wider Oke-Ogun region have expressed deep sorrow at his passing, describing it as a significant loss to both grassroots politics and public administration. Makenson was equally revered in traditional circles for his commitment to community progress and unity.
