As a result of the recent hike in university registration fees and to make Northern Borno educationally endowed, the Senator representing Borno North Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Sen. Mohammed Tahir Monguno graciously offered a fully funded scholarship up to graduation to 100 Northern Borno Students currently studying at the University of Maiduguri and Borno State University respectively.

The first batch of the scholarship initiative with 50 beneficiaries across the two universities under the auspices of M.T. Monguno Educational Foundation was flagged off on Saturday, 9th March 2024 at Elkanemi Hall of the Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri. Bulama Mustapha Makinta, the Registrar of Ramat Polytechnic served as Chairman of the occasion while Dr. Ali Yaumi, the former Chairman of Magumeri LGA and a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Maiduguri served as Guest Lecturer. The beneficiaries were selected through a rigorous screening and interview process which includes factors such as academic performance, social status, and gender, where special considerations were given to orphans and the less privileged. This is because many of them were on the verge of dropping out of the universities due to the increase in registration fees.

While delivering his speech, Sen. M.T. Monguno says “The only legacy that one can bequeath to humanity is the legacy of Education. As such I will do everything possible to support the educational development of my people. If not because of education, I wouldn’t have been where I am today”. Sen. Monguno further calls on the beneficiaries to utilise the golden opportunity granted to them and strive to study hard and be good ambassadors of Borno North.
