Nothing less than seventy births have been recorded at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps since January, 2022, in Benue State.

This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Emmanuel Shior, in a statement on Friday, July 15.

According to him,

“The agency is very strict on illicit sexual affairs in the camps. It is very difficult to control the tide of births in the camps, the IDPs are human beings.”

“The aspect we try to control is unmarried people sleeping with each other; other unlawful sexual acts are also forbidden in the camps. But between January and now, we have roughly between 70 plus to 80 childbirths that have been recorded.” He said
