Bayo Olugbemi Succeeds Uche Olowu As CIBN President

Mr Bayo Olugbemi, an Ibadan-born financial expert and banker has been sworn-in as the 21st president of Chattered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria(CIBN).

Olugbemi alongside other executives were sworn-in on Monday during an online investiture of the CIBN attended by no fewer than 600 delegates.

The swearing-in had followed an endorsement and ratification of Olugbemi alongside other executives of the professional body.

The Ibadan-born capital market operator was a past president of the foremost Jericho Businessmen Club of Ibadan and immediate Past President/Chairman, Governing Council of the Institute of Capital Market Registrars (ICMR).

The renown financial expert had succeeded Dr Uche Olowu, who was the 20th President and Chairman of Council

Olugbemi in his acceptance speech paid tribute to all past leaders who contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Institute, promising build upon the solid structure constructed over the years.

The new president in his speech entitled ‘Bracing for the Next to Normal” said the institute must step into the next normal and position themselves ahead of the curve.

“We must move forward quickly into new uncharted and exciting territories and claim ownership of it before anyone else,” he said.

Earlier, Olowu in his address thanked stakeholders for their support during his tenure. 

Olowu said that the innovative approach to hosting the Investiture program online was CIBNs response to the business disruption orchestrated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among other newly elected executives of the institute sworn-in at the event are Dr. Kenneth Opara (1st Vice President), Prof. Deji Olanrewaju  (2nd Vice President) and Mr. Oladele Alabi (National Treasurer).

The event featured the swearing-in of Olugbemi as the 21st president through the transfer of presidential necklace.

The new president in turn performed the official swearing-in of the newly elected officials and governing council members of the Institute.

Olugbemi, an alumnus of many prestigious Business Schools across the world had functioned in several committees of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as well as other Capital Market Infrastructures.

He is an experienced Trainer in Leadership, Management, Capital Market Development, Business Formation, Shares Registration, Corporate Governance and Ethics as well as Banking and Finance, , 

Attendees of the online event were drawn from CBN, banks, professional bodies and past presidents, management and staff of the Institute as well as the media.
