Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has dismissed reports alleging a confrontation between him and the Council of Afobajes over the selection of a new Awujale of Ijebuland, describing the claims as false, misleading and the handiwork of mischief makers.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the governor said his recent meeting with the Council of Afobajes was purely consultative and devoid of threats, ultimatums or coercion, contrary to widely circulated reports.
The statement clarified that Governor Abiodun’s engagement with the Afobajes was in line with his long-standing approach to resolving sensitive traditional matters through dialogue, recalling his earlier interventions that helped harmonise polarized Olori Ebis and led to the withdrawal of a court case by one of the kingmakers.
Akinmade specifically debunked claims attributing statements such as “No Kuye, No Awujale” to the governor, stressing that no Afobaje could attest to such remarks as they were never made. He described the reports as deliberate fabrications aimed at distorting facts surrounding the Awujale selection process.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to due process, respect for traditional institutions and a fair, transparent process in selecting the next Awujale, noting that his administration holds the revered Ijebu throne in the highest esteem. The public and media were urged to disregard unverified reports and rely only on information from official sources.
