The Academic Staff Union of Polythecnics ASUP has announced the suspension of 2 months Old Industrial action.
The Suspension takes effect from Thursday June 10 2021
The notification of the suspension which was supported by 74% vote of chapter congresses currently observing the strike was contained in a memo signed by Secretary General of the association Comrade K Shammah S. Kpanja.
According to the memo, the decisoon to put off the strike was reached after the successful conclusion of the nationwide chapter congresses and collation of the outcomes of these congresses as directed by the emergency meeting of the
National Executive Council (NEC) of the Union,
The memo read further that the suspension is for a period of 3 months within which it is expected that government would have fulfilled ALL the items contained in the signed Memorandum of Action
The body had, in a nine-point demand, requested among others, implementation of new salary scheme, revitalisation of polytechnics, the inauguration of the national commission for polytechnics ,
implementation of new national minimum wage, payment of arrears, among others.
The Union leadership commend the chapters and members who kept faith with the strike action throughout its duration and reassure members of the Union’s commitment at ensuring that the items in the signed
memorandum of action is faithfully implemented by the government.
