Nigeria singer and songwriter, Ahmed Ololade better known as Asake has emerged as the Best African Artiste of the Year at the 24th edition of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
The award show which was held last weekend at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) saw the ‘Omo Ope’ crooner named the Best African Artiste of the Year.
Asake got the better of other African artistes Arya Star, Burna Boy, Kizz Daniel, Libianca, and The Therapist to get the award. Asake, who is popular for his unique way of singing in the Yoruba language over an uptempo Afro and Amapiano-styled production
He dropped his debut album, ‘Mr. Money with the Vibe’ in 2022 and the songs on the project dominated music charts in Ghana, Nigeria, and other countries. Asake’s various hit tracks and domination in the music space over this short period of time have accordingly received recognition at Ghana’s biggest music award scheme as he was crowned as the Best African Artiste of the Year.
Other musicians that got award at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) during the weekend include Black Sherif, won the Artiste of the Year and three others, Camidoh won Afrobeats Song of the Year and Best Collaboration, King Promise won Album of the Year with 5 Star, Sarkodie got the Hiplife Artiste of the Year and Piesie Esther won Gospel Song and Artiste of the Year awards.
