This development was confirmed in a letter dated 13th October 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and signed by the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru.

According to the letter, two aspirants — Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo — were initially cleared to participate in the governorship primary election earlier scheduled for 27th October 2025 through the direct primary mode.

Why I Want To Contest For Ibadan North Constituency II Seat In Oyo Assembly Under Accord Party – Adeyemi Opeyemi Ishola A grassroots politician and community development advocate, Adeyemi Opeyemi Ishola, has declared his intention to contest for the Ibadan North Constituency II seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly under the platform of the Accord Party, saying his decision is driven by a desire to deepen inclusive governance and expand opportunities for young people and small business owners. Ishola, who was born and raised in Ibadan, said growing up within the constituency gave him firsthand understanding of the socio-economic realities confronting residents, including youth unemployment, struggling small-scale enterprises, and infrastructure deficits. Speaking during an interaction with journalists about his ambition in Ibadan on Wednesday, the aspirant under the Accord Party said, “I am contesting because I understand the pains and the potential of our people. I grew up here. I know the challenges we face daily, and I believe effective representation can change that narrative.” He described himself as a grassroots politician who has remained actively involved in community mobilisation and empowerment initiatives. According to him, his interventions include financial support for small-scale business owners in the Mokola community and the donation of food items to residents of the Cheshire Home in Ijokodo. Ishola noted that his political ideology, which aligns with the principles of the Accord Party, is anchored on inclusive governance, transparency, and practical representation. “Leadership must be accessible and accountable. The people should feel the impact of governance in their daily lives,” he said. The aspirant outlined his legislative priorities to include youth employment and skill acquisition programmes, strengthening of small and medium-scale enterprises, and improved infrastructure across Ibadan North Constituency II. Other focus areas, he said, are educational support initiatives, agricultural and rural development support, as well as social welfare and poverty alleviation programmes targeted at vulnerable groups. He added that his ambition under the Accord Party is to serve as a strong voice for youths, women, and underserved communities within the constituency. “I am committed to people-centred policies that will advance the progress of Ibadan North Constituency II. Our constituency deserves proactive, responsive, and development-driven representation,” Ishola stated.

The APC leadership explained that Mrs. Omolayo’s withdrawal and endorsement of Oyebanji align with Section 84(9) and (11) of the Electoral Act 2022, which permits political parties to adopt a consensus candidate provided all cleared aspirants give written consent.

Consequently, the party has amended its schedule of activities and timetable for the Ekiti governorship primary as follows:

SN Activities Date
1 Delegate Congress Saturday, 25th October 2025
2 Delegate Congress Appeal Sunday, 26th October 2025
3 Special Nomination Congress to ratify the choice of the consensus candidate Monday, 27th October 2025

The Nomination Congress is scheduled to hold by 10:00 a.m. on Monday, 27th October 2025, at the Ekiti State Pavilion, New Iyin Road, Ado-Ekiti, to officially ratify Governor Oyebanji as the party’s flag bearer for the 2025 governorship election.

The APC leadership also notified INEC of the change in the mode of the primary election from Direct Primary to Consensus, urging the commission to monitor the process as required by law.

With Mrs. Omolayo’s voluntary withdrawal, Governor Oyebanji now remains the sole aspirant and consensus candidate of the party for the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti State.
