The Oyo State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps has condemned what it described as a “Gestapo-style” arrest of one of its operatives by officers of the Nigeria Police, Zone 11 Command.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Corps said its operative, Amo Saheed Ajibola, was allegedly abducted around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, while on lawful duty at a static patrol position covering the General Gas–Akobo axis of Ibadan.
The State Commandant of Amotekun, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd.), faulted the manner of the arrest, accusing officers from Nigeria Police Force Zone 11 of failing to follow due process.
According to him, the agency has consistently maintained cordial working relationships with other security outfits, including the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), particularly in handling cases involving its personnel.
“We have always handed over suspected accused persons to relevant security agencies on request. That is the standard procedure being observed in our collaboration with the police and other sister agencies,” Olayanju said.
He argued that if there were any allegations or investigations involving the operative, the appropriate step would have been a formal communication with the Amotekun Headquarters, especially as the officer was on official duty at the time of the incident.
The Commandant described the method allegedly adopted by the police as “uncivil” and potentially dangerous, noting that the officers were reportedly not in uniform and did not arrive in branded police vehicles.
He warned that such an approach, particularly amid rising cases of abduction in the metropolis, could provoke resistance and possibly lead to fatal consequences.
“All suspects have the right to know their offences, and their fundamental rights should be respected during arrest,” he stated.
Olayanju further advised the police to adopt more professional procedures in the interest of inter-agency cooperation and effective synergy.
As of press time, the Corps said it had not received any official correspondence from the police regarding the arrest of the operative.
