Action Democratic Party ADP gubernatorial candidate in Oyo state , Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala has tasked media practitioners to use their power to deepening Democracy and good governance in Nigeria.

Akala in while speaking as a guest lecturer at World Television day held by Nigerian Union of Journalists said the role of the media in the society is to be the eyes and ears of the people using the content on their stations to enhance development .

The former governor who was represented by his media Adviser Barrister Abraham Ojo also said the media should promote National Unity and avoid reporting sensational and commercialized news that can destroy the nation .

He empathized on the need for training of media especially on peace and conflict as well developmental journalism

” The media need to refuse to be use as instrument of incitement to conflict and war but promote good governance to sustain democracy ”

They should not allow themselves to be used by those who want to destroy the image of others and should always adhere to the ethics of media practice in Nigeria.

In his welcome address, the state Chairman of NUJ, comrade Adewumi Faniran said the program is organized to further sensitize media practitioner on the need to deepening democracy and promote good governance .

The lecture organized in conjunction with De Patriotic Chamber, was attended by National President Theatre and Motion Art Producers Association of Nigeria TAMPAN, Representatives of Zonal Director NTA and Chairman BCOS.
